The Mescaleros waren seit 1999 die Band Joe Strummers, mit denen er bis zu seinem Tod 2002 drei Alben aufnahm. Musikalisch spielten The Mescaleros den Stilmix, für den Strummer schon aus seiner Zeit bei The Clash bekannt war: Eine Mischung aus Reggae, Jazz, Funk, Hip Hop, Country und Punk Rock.
